Tools I Use For Modding

This is a list of tools I use for modding.

3DS Max 2018
Nif Plugin for 3DS Max 2015-2018
NifSkope 2.0
Paint.NET
Photoshop CS6
Knald
Quixel
Creation Kit
TES5Edit
Unfuzer
BSA Browser

Below I will describe in detail what each of these programs do.

3DS Max 2018
A 3D Modelling program that I've been using for a few years. You can get the student version for free if you can prove you're a student at a school or university. Alternatively, you can use Blender, which seems to have much of the same features.

Nif Plugin for 3DS Max 2015-2018
Search for this on the Skyrim Nexus. Allows for importing and exporting .nif files (the mesh files Bethesda uses) in 3DS Max. The most recent version supports Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE.

NifSkope 2.0
The most recent version of Nifskope, it allows you to view and directly edit branches inside .nif files. Make sure you get the most recent version of Nifskope because it will display the meshes with the proper shaders and lighting.

Paint.NET
My personal favourite image editing software. It's a free download and supports .dds files (the texture files Bethesda uses) out of the box. While not as powerful as Photoshop, it's much easier to use and much cleaner in the UI. When searching for it on Google, search "paint.net download" as opposed to just "paint.net", otherwise you'll be redirected to some random site.

Photoshop CS6
Probably what most people will recommend you to use. It's the most powerful imaging software I know of and - with the .dds plugin - supports all types of compression that Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE make use of.

Knald
A fast, reliable and good quality normal map baker and generator. I use this for baking normal maps and generating ambient occlusion, as well as for tileable textures.

Quixel
This is a fairly expansive texturing program that plugs into Photoshop. It's what I've been using recently to do all my textures. There's a large library of materials to choose from, and you can add edge degradation pretty easily. An alternative to Quixel would be Substance Painter 2, which is probably more widely used anyway.

Creation Kit
Bethesda's own Creation Kit is what I create my .esps in. I'd recommend it over TES5Edit for most users.

TES5Edit
A very powerful and useful utility for editing .esps. I use it for cleaning my .esps and for editing things quickly, since it loads up 10x faster than the Creation Kit.

Unfuzer
This program can extract .fuz files (the voice files Bethesda uses) and re-compress afterwards.

BSA Browser
Very useful for anyone looking to alter existing assets or simply use them as reference bases. This mod can extract vanilla assets from their .bsa archives to a destination of your choice, allowing you to then edit them from there.

Solaze

A new sword inspired by the Bellius Warden sword in For Honour. Optional Dawnbreaker replacer available.

Dunmeri Leaf Sword

Technically it's not actually a leaf-bladed sword, but the weapon that inspired me had one so I kept the name. There are two variants of this sword; this is the ebony version, there's also a plainer steel version.

There is a small quest to obtain these weapons. Outside of Hlaalu Farm near Windhelm, you can find a Dunmer warrior looking for a blacksmith.

4K textures, approximately 2500 triangles (both sword & scabbard).

Pre-Release Download (no voice acting, everything else is done).

I will upload to the Nexus once the voice acting is done.

Testing my ENB

I keep tweaking my ENB because I am never satisfied. And then I end up ruining everything. :P

I'll keep this as a backup though.

I've since fixed the fire too.

Ornate Dremora Horns

I was considering playing a Dremora character in Skyrim, so I made some horns for her.

Stuff

It's been a while since I've uploaded anything or updated this blog, so here we go.

Just a few random things that I've been working on. Not sure when or if I'll release them...

A sword I made for Lordbound. This is the nobility version, there's also a darker common variant.

A baseball bat I made for PyroToaster. I don't know baseball so it's probably not very proportionate, but eh.

Nobushi armour inspired by For Honour. It's mostly done, but there are some skinning issues that I can't fix (surprise, surprise, for those who saw my Peacekeeper armour) under the arms and the skirt. Meihyr drew the designs.

A close-up to see the small details. The ambient occlusion is baked into the textures.

This is the Nobushi Naginata, as viewed in Quixel. Unfortunately, I cannot transfer the quality into last-gen rendering (Skyrim) so it looks worse in Nifskope.

Some Dwemer armour I made for a follower I was working on. It's using pieces from Nisetanaka's Dwemer bikini (don't judge me) and works in-game.

And an accompanying sword and scabbard to match it. I tried to match aMidianBorn textures, but I'm not sure how well that worked. It's perhaps a little too clean to be comparable.

And this is the follower. Her name is Renna Dren. Currently, she functions fine as is, however I didn't want to just release her without getting her some custom dialogue and voicing, considering how much work I put into her appearance. This project is on hold for now.

So yeah, that's all the stuff I've been doing. I can't say if any or all will make it to the light, but who knows.

Galanterie for Fallout 4

Remade Galanterie's textures in Quixel (again) and then ported it to Fallout 4. Unlike my other weapons for Fallout 4, this one can actually be upgraded (it took me hours to figure it out, but worth it).

Peacekeeper Armour

Still work-in-progress. Mostly done, though I still need to fix some skinning issues and perhaps refine the textures a little more. Boots and gauntlets also need to be done.

No download yet. I will upload a separate blog post once it's ready.

Peacekeeper Helmet

Inspired by the Peacekeeper from For Honour, I decided to make this.

No download yet. I'm still debating if I want to make an entire armour set, or just leave it as the helmet.

Dwemer Axe

An axe I made for JayCrane. She drew the designs in the inset bevel.

I won't be uploading it personally, but it will appear in one of JayCrane's mods.

Mortis WIP

A work-in-progress sword for Skyrim. The model is done, however PyroToaster and I are going to turn this sword into a voiced follower. So yeah, a magical floating sword that talks to you but can also be equipped and used by the player. :P

Not sure how long it will take to release, though. Depends on how much we're going to add to it, I suppose.

EDIT: We got lazy and the full thing never came to fruition. So here's the mod: download.
